New Year Resolutions-How Are You Doing?

It’s January 12, 12 days into the new year 2018. How are you doing on your New Year Resolutions? Most of you are probably still hanging in there, some of you might have slacked off a bit. I read somewhere that it takes an average of 21 days to change a habit/routine, so don’t give up! Also if you’re going with the Chinese calendar the New Year, the Year of the Dog doesn’t start till February 16, 2018.
My New Years Resolutions this year is to read at least 12 books 📚 and exercise more. I lump reading magazines, online articles, and other forms of written materials (instructions, medical forms, terms of agreements, etc.) as part of my reading goals since I am reading 😊 However I don’t write those down in my reading log book, yes just like when I was in school when we had to keep a log on how many pages/chapters we read each night for 20 minutes. It makes me smile to see what I have read.
My second resolution is to exercise more, at least 3-4 times a week of cardio. Now exercising, that’s a challenge for me. It’s not that I don’t like to exercise, it’s getting started, because once I get started I am all good.
I have come up with a solution to get me to exercise by combining it with my love for reading. I read while walking on the treadmill or stationary bike, warning ⚠️ don’t attempt to read while riding a moving 🚴.

I leave one of the books I am reading on the treadmill and it motivates me to exercise because I can’t read it unless I exercise. (Warning, don’t do this at high speeds, I usually walk at 2.0-3.0 mph at the most). I usually go over my time because I’m so engrossed in the book 📚

Other ways I get my reading in is putting one of the books in the car (yes, I usually read more than 1 book at a time). If you’re waiting for your someone to finish practice, shopping, filling up gas, or waiting in line at the gas station or a drive through you can read.
Other ways I get some exercise in, I work in my green house (you’d be amazed at how many times you have to squat while gardening). I also park far from the store when I go shopping (this doesn’t apply on rainy days) to get a little more walking in.
Those are my tips to keep you motivated. What do you do to get more reading time/ exercise time in? No matter if it’s 10 minutes or 5 minutes, you did something. That’s awesome!

Have a smiley 🙂 Day!
